Welcome to Subsurface Processes Laboratory (SPL)

  • FALL 2024 KICK OFF LUNCH

Energy has become the world’s biggest engineering challenge. Current carbon-based energy supply faces conventional reserves depletion and climatic hurdles.

Our research addresses enhanced energy recovery and associated environmental mitigation from a geoengineering perspective. We study fundamental hydro-thermo-chemo-bio-mechanical properties of soils and rocks, characterize geomaterials and pore flows at elevated pressure and temperature conditions. We apply our work primarily to hydrate-bearing sediments, geothermal systems, and microbial manipulated subsurface flows.
